Experience

Steven (Steve) Carr is a business lawyer, with more than 30 years of experience representing lenders, business and social entrepreneurs, and real estate developers. Steve’s practice concentrates on the areas of debt and equity finance, business law, commercial lending, commercial real estate, community development, contract negotiations, complex commercial transactions, historic rehabilitation, affordable housing and energy tax credit transactions, land use and zoning matters.
Steve’s experience and practice areas also include: new business development and start-ups (including LLCs and corporations); business dispute resolution and litigation; lease negotiations; corporate law and corporate governance; energy law, regulation and tax credits; employment law; intellectual property matters; shareholder agreements and shareholder rights; LLC operating agreements; wills, trusts, and elder law matters; representations of business owners, partners, shareholders, contractors, developers, lenders, and equity investors.
Steve has been active as a volunteer in community service.  He is the former Chair of the North Carolina Bar Foundation’s Continuing Legal Education Committee, and is a frequent speaker and contributor to CLE programs and professional publications.  He is also a former President and Chairman of the Board of the Laura Holland Uzzell Foundation, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation, and the Sterling Montessori Academy and Charter School in Morrisville, North Carolina.
Steve also served as the Director and Chairman of the Board of the Contemporary Science Center, Inc. (CSC), a non-profit foundation promoting applied science field studies and related programs for North Carolina high school students.  CSC’s founder and Board later developed and now operate the Research Triangle High School, a nonprofit high school whose mission is to increase access to globally competitive Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education for students and teachers across North Carolina.  The Research Triangle High School is located in the Research Triangle Park in Durham County, North Carolina.
